Worship in Preparation 02-26-23

Good morning. Heaven will be a marvelous situation. I hesitate to call it a “place”, because such a word would indicate a physical location, and I think it unlikely that any reference to the physical is appropriate.

Worship in spirit and in truth seems to be our best opportunity to experience the glories of heaven while we breathe air. Do we ever consider as we make ready for worship, and as we engage in worship, that we are sharing in something that prepares us for heavenly existence? As you prepare for worship on this Lord’s Day, please consider this passage from Ephesians 3:14-21. The first six verses are presented as one long sentence. This is because Paul’s prayer for God’s people is one singular idea expressed.

For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

This prayer is an expression of Paul’s desire that God’s people will have something of the fullness of God while we live for Him on this earth. It is a prayer that describes the wonder of a heavenly outlook and reality, even though we remain, for now, bound to the flesh.

Prepare for worship, prepare for heaven, prepare for your Lord today!
