There Is No Gray 7-8-22

Good morning. We know that Jesus Christ is the Light. When reading about Jesus in John 1:4-5 we read: In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. Jesus, the Light of life, shines in the darkness. What is said next is often overlooked, but it is very important: and the darkness has not overcome it. This is the nature of light and darkness. There is no darkness that can overcome the light. You cannot release a box of darkness in a brightly lit room and defeat the light. However, when a single candle is lit in a place that is completely dark, the light overpowers the darkness and darkness is gone.

If we take this truth of “the light always overcomes the darkness” and apply it to our spiritual lives, we gain greater understanding of what it means to walk with the Lord. We read in 1 John 1:5-7This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live in the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.

It is when we walk in the light, God’s perfect light, that we find fellowship with one another. It is when we walk in the light, God’s perfect light, that we find purity, for it is in that light that we find Jesus.

As we consider these wonderful passages about living and walking in the Light of the Lord, there is one more truth that I would like to have us consider today. There is no mention of gray. We know that at the beginning and end of every day there is a time when the light isn’t fully shining but it exists enough to help us see, more or less. It is that time of day we think of as the “gray” of dusk and dawn.

When we consider walking with the Lord who is the Light, there is no gray. We are either fully with Him or we are not with Him at all.

I think that there is a lie from our true enemy that we may easily fall prey to. It is the lie that says we can live in the gray. It is the lie that says that our standard of righteousness is to be better than the person we see at work, or at school, or at church. If we can be better than average, we should be OK. But no, that isn’t true at all.

Jesus is our standard of righteousness and Jesus is our source and hope for righteousness (2 Corinthians 5:21). His righteousness is our perfect and complete light, and in Him there is no gray area at all, not even a hint of darkness.

Walk in the light today. That means walking fully and completely within the will of your Lord and Savior. There is no gray, that is a lie. It is all about the light or the darkness… and we must choose.
