Good morning, I doubt that there would be much debate over the statement that we live in “interesting” times. It feels as though our country, the good old U.S. of A. is ready to explode. In this, we are far from alone, and as we look around we see that the world is facing several kinds of crises at the moment. It seems as though the only continent without countries facing famine, war, disease, and upheaval would be Antarctica. For Christians who are willing to pray for people around the globe, the list of needs is very long and complicated.
But there is an answer. It is God’s desire that the hurting people of the world find their peace by turning to Him and accepting His one answer to their various dilemma.
For today’s thought please consider with me what the apostle Paul said to his young protégée, Timothy, in 1 Timothy 2:1-6. I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all people.
First of all, please note that the desire expressed is that we lift our prayers, petitions, and words of thanksgiving for all people. We should pray for every human authority, whether we agree with them or not. Our prayers should be lifted up for every leader and for the people of every nation that they would find a way to live in peace, goodness, and holiness.
If that prayer seems like wishful thinking, please note that we are also given the answer as to how this can happen. It is all about Jesus. It is all about every nation coming to the understanding that Jesus will bring them their longed for peace. This is possible because: For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all people.
There is one God, and He is the God of all people. There is one Messiah, whose mission is to stand between the God of Justice and every sinner in order to mediate on our behalf. Jesus is able to do this because He willingly paid the price for us all.
If we look around the globe and feel as though the people of our world have never been more in need of peace, goodness, and holiness than they are right now, God says, “That’s right, and the answer I have provided is Jesus. Get out there and share my good news!”
