The Anchor 6-21-22

Good morning. When ships are moored in a bay, they need to rely on an anchor point that is trustworthy. They do not go in search of new points and places that an anchor might hold, they go to those places that are tried and true, places that they know will hold up in the face of a storm. This is true for you and me as well. Any anchor point will be fine if the water is calm, and the sun is shining. But when the storms come, and we all know that they do come, we need anchor points that are trustworthy, tried, and true.

Please give some thought today to some anchor points in God’s Word:

We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain, where Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf, having become a high priest forever after the order of Melchizedek. Hebrews 6:19-20

Yes, my soul is secure, I find rest in God; my hope comes from him. Psalm 62:5

And hope will never put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us. Romans 5:5

Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. Hebrews 4:16

This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:5-2:2

When the storms next find you, throw your anchor to these powerful truths, for they will always hold.
