Good morning. Personal storage unit businesses were recently ranked as the third most safe and secure kind of business to engage in. I guess that makes sense, at least in this country. If we haven’t filled a separate storage unit with the overflow of blessings (miscellaneous stuff) that have come into our lives, we almost certainly have filled our garage, or closets, or spare room, or back porch, or all of the above with leftover stuff. My excuse is that I live in Minnesota, which means that I need different kinds of stuff for work and for play for all of the different seasons of the year. The things that work for summer don’t do us much good in January, right?
Do we need all of the stuff we have stored away? That is another question, and conversation, entirely.
We read this in Luke 6:43-45 “No good tree bears bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. Each tree is recognized by its own fruit. People do not pick figs from thornbushes, or grapes from briers. A good person brings good things out of the good stored up in their heart, and an evil person brings evil things out of the evil stored up in their heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.
This passage says that we are defined by the stuff we choose to store inside ourselves. It also says that we may try and pretend that we are something that we are not, but the truth is revealed by the “fruit” that is in our life. That which is being stored up inside is going to come out eventually.
The good person brings good things out of the good stored up in their heart.
The suggestion for the day is this: Perhaps we might consider what we have stored up inside, and what we have decided doesn’t need a space.
There may be a grudge or there may be grace. There may be anger or there may be peace. There may be disappointment or there may be satisfaction. There may be sorrow for feeling rejection or there may be joy for being accepted. There may be hate or there may be love.
What we choose to keep, to store away, will find its way into our lives. God’s Word says it and you know that it is true.
Clean house, make some choices, decide what stays and what needs to go.
The good person brings good things out of the good stored up in their heart.
