Seeking Him 10-27-21

Good morning. Seeking God may seem like an odd concept. After all, God is everywhere, all the time, revealed throughout His creation.

But what if your desire is to seek God in a more personal way? What if your desire is to seek Him in Truth, in power, and in the fullness of His will? The following scriptures all promise us success when we seek Him:

·         “I love those who love me, and those who diligently seek me will find me. Proverbs 8:17

·         But from there, you will seek the LORD your God, and you will find Him if you search for Him with all your heart and all your soul. Deuteronomy 4:29

·         So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. Luke 11:9-10

·         ‘You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart. Jeremiah 29:13

I think my favorite promise regarding seeking God is found in Proverbs 2:1-5:

My son, if you receive my words
and treasure up my commandments with you,
making your ear attentive to wisdom

    and inclining your heart to understanding;
yes, if you call out for insight
and raise your voice for understanding,
if you seek it like silver
and search for it as for hidden treasures,
then you will understand the fear of the Lord
and find the knowledge of God.

These are steps to help us in seeking God:

Verse 1: First, we are to accept, treasure, learn, and store up His Word.

Verse 2: This verse tells us that the right spirit is key. We must have a spirit of submission and a hunger to be taught by God.

Verse 3: We must develop a passionate prayer life, earnestly pleading with God for greater understanding. To “raise your voice” for understanding is saying that we shouldn’t be timid in this process. Be bold!

Verse 4: Seeking God should be the heart felt goal of each day, approached with the passion that would be given to finding a hidden treasure.

Verse 5: This verse speaks to us of the great point of motivation in life. When we seek Him with all of our heart, we will find Him. When we find Him in a greater and more powerful, personal way, we will experience His presence with new knowledge. We will come to recognize Him in a way that makes us thankful, even as we learn that we are to fear Him. This is because the proper fear of the Lord means we are embracing the fulness of His power and authority, but also realizing the certainty of His love and promise of eternal life.

Seeking God in the way that He desires for us to come to know Him means discovering Him in delightful new ways. It isn’t automatic. To know Him superficially is easy, but such a relationship with our heavenly Father is not functional. Jesus tells us in Matthew 7:23 Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’

Let it be our hearts desire today to come to know God the Father, Son, and Spirit in new and more powerful ways.

It is time for a spiritual treasure hunt. It is time to seek Him!
