Good morning. There are a great many things that you could say to the Lord to affirm your love for Him. There are many things that you could say that would affirm your trust in Him. There are many things that you could say that would affirm your faith in His promises. But please consider today the power in these five words:
I am willing to try.
There are times when that is what the Lord is asking of us, “Please, my child, trust me and give it a try.”
One such occassion:
The fishermen had been out all night, and their nets hadn’t caught a thing.
Tired, frustrated, ready to call it quits, they tended to their nets so they could head for home and get some rest.
The preacher was nearby, sharing his message with a crowd of people. What did that have to do with them? Not much, it would seem.
But then, Jesus spoke to them. He said to Simon, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.”Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.”Luke 54-5
All of their experience told them it was a waste of time. Their tired backs would have complained at the thought of the unreasonable chore being asked of them. But Simon, who would be called Peter, spoke the words that Jesus longs to hear: “I am willing to try.”
You know the result; they caught so many fish their nets couldn’t hold them. It was enough for Peter to say, “Depart from me Lord, for I am a sinful man!”
The experience was life changing, and it all began with those few words our Lord longs to hear: “I am willing to try.”
Simple words, but an important truth. It is amazing what the Lord can do with those who are willing to try. His power is worthy of our trust, but are we willing to do our best and give it an honest try? “Yes Lord, I am willing.”
