Our Walk 1-9-24

Good morning. 1 John 2:5-6 is a brief bit of scripture but one with a powerful message: By this we may know that we are living in Him: whoever says he abides in Him must walk in the same way in which He walked.

Does that mean we should trade in our shoes for sandals, give up our cars and walk from here to there? No, I think not. It is saying that we should be conducting ourselves, prioritizing our time, recognizing our mission in life in accordance with the way that our Lord Jesus walked through His days.

As for how Jesus walked, the where and the why of it, there is another very brief verse from the Word that clears it up for us:  For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” Luke 19:10

Jesus said and did a great deal while He was with us on this earth. In fact, the last words written in the gospel of John are these:  Jesus did many other things beyond what has been written. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written. John 21:25

The wonderful, powerful, miraculous, loving and kind words and actions of Jesus would be far too many to write down, but if we are to identify a single statement of ultimate purpose it is what is shared from Luke 19:10 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”

If we are to set our sights on “walking as Jesus walked” then we should be setting our sights on making our mission in life one with His mission. It is the summation of the Lord’s command for His people, the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20). We are to Go. We are to seek the lost. We are to make disciples from every kind of person we meet. We are to teach them to obey every command of the Lord. And we are to remember always that we are never alone, Jesus is always by our side when His mission is our mission.

Let’s take a walk with the Lord and dare to live as He lived.
