Good morning. What is like God’s love for you? With what could it be compared? How could it be described when the best we can offer are words? I am not at all sure that mere words are capable of describing something so awesome, so powerful, so complete, as God’s love for each of His dear ones. But God does the job better than any of us could ever do. All of scripture tells us about God, and therefore about His love. Even those difficult areas that speak of discipline and of commands to reach out in His name to combat evil, it all tells the story of the breadth and scope of God’s love.
But there is one book of scripture that is not often read in which it is God’s purpose to tell us of the power and scope of His love. He speaks to us in a way that we humans are able to relate. It is called The Song of Solomon, or The Song of Songs.
Every word tells us of a love affair. God uses an experience many of us have had the blessing to experience to better portray the truth of His passionate love for each of us. The Song of Songs tells us about love’s passion and its urgency. Often, its verses tell us that love which is extreme in passion is always in a hurry. In a hurry to pick up the phone and see a message, or to make a call. Love that can’t wait until the next opportunity to be close to that special someone. That love knows nothing about being slow or sluggish. That love is never reluctant or reserved. That kind of love is a rush, and it is in a rush. Please consider Song of Songs 2:8-9
The voice of my beloved!
Behold, he comes,
leaping over the mountains,
bounding over the hills.
My beloved is like a gazelle
or a young stag.
Or the love described in 2:14
O my dove, in the clefts of the rock,
in the crannies of the cliff,
let me see your face,
let me hear your voice,
for your voice is sweet,
and your face is lovely.
This is God’s description of His love for you. His comparison to help us understand how He feels. His love is urgent, passionate, powerful, expressive, delightful. Bask in the fullness of His love, the power of it and the speed of it. His love is always in a hurry to hold you close again.
