Looks Good on You 5-6-22

Good morning. There is an old joke/story about a woman married to a miserly man. She told him one day that she was going to do some shopping. Being miserly, that got his attention. He made it very clear that in his mind “window shopping” would be OK, but that she was not to buy anything.

The lady came home a few hours later with a beautiful dress (I know, good for her!). When her miserly husband saw it, he was angry and said, “I thought that we agreed that you were going to look but not buy.” “Yes” she said. “But when I tried it on the devil said to me “My, my, but that dress certainly does look good on you!” The husband huffed and replied, “That is when you are supposed to say, ‘Get behind me Satan!’” “I did” she told him. “But then the devil said, ‘How about that, it looks really good from this side too.’”

Choosing our wardrobe on any given day often has more to do with our plans for the day than anything else. If we are dressing for work, what we wear is chosen according to the kind of work we do. If we are dressing for play, it all depends on what kind of activity we have in mind.

But for the Christian we are given some daily wardrobe instructions that rise above any and all other considerations. Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Colossians 3:12-15

With these aspects of Christian character in place we are certain to be well dressed in the most important ways. If we are thinking of taking a friend fishing, how could we look better than clothed like this? If we are heading to work in an office, how could we get a better start on our day and on our relationships with our coworkers than by being dressed in such a godly fashion?

Whatever the plans you may have for the day ahead, know this: being clothed in Christ really looks good on you!
