Good morning. Have you ever heard the saying “for every tree growing up, there is another growing down”? It is an old saying, but the meaning is that when you see someone who is enjoying the fruits of their labors you can be sure that they are well rooted by the time and effort it has taken to create prosperity.
For most trees, the root system that spreads underground is equal to or even greater than the biomass of the tree that is visible above the ground.
The Bible uses this example of trees to describe the blessings that are ours from a complete, competent, and godly “root system”. Believers who are enjoying life are well supplied and blessed. Psalm 1:1-3 speaks of the righteous who love the Lord:
Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers,
but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,
and who meditates on his law day and night.
That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither—
whatever they do prospers.
Consider some of the opportunities of blessing that are present for every believer as we are daily nourished and bountifully supplied by streams flowing from the heart of God. A consistent and powerful prayer life would be one such nourishing stream. Another stream of blessing comes to us as we study and meditate on God’s Word. Streams of blessing are ours as we come together, enjoying fellowship and friendship in the Lord. Streams of blessing are ours when we share the love of God by meeting each other’s needs. Streams of blessing flow to us as we serve the Lord in various ways as He equips and inspires us.
Like trees in a desert growing on the edge of a stream, we are nourished as we gratefully accept the blessings of God.
God bless you today as flourish in Him.
