Good morning. For our Worship Day thought I would like to share two passages of scripture with you. It is always the goal of Christians to better know Jesus Christ. Not to know of Him, or about Him, but to truly know Him in a meaningful, personal way.
The apostle Paul wrote to the Philippians of how important this concept of knowing Christ was to Him: But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith. Philippians 3:7-9
Paul writes to the Colossian church, describing our Christ Jesus whom we must come to know: The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him.He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him,and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross. Colossians 1:15-20
Jesus, the Son of God; one person of the Trinity of God; the revelation of God who came to us in the flesh so that we may better come to know Him.
This is a focus of worship whenever we come together to bring Him glory and praise. In every song, through every prayer, with every word spoken, we must come to know Him more. Worship is a celebration of knowing God through Jesus Christ.
When we come to worship, we come before the throne of God. When we come to worship, we embrace the presence of God in the Holy Spirit. When we come to worship, we rejoice in our opportunity for greater intimacy with God in the person of Jesus Christ.
Worship well today and rejoice in coming to know Him more.
