Good morning. That title are the first words of Psalm 116. King David sings to the Lord from the depth of his heart with this Psalm. David recognizes his own need, the love and power of God, and the willingness of God to care for the one who loves Him. The first 7 verses of the Psalm are these:
I love the Lord, and He heard my voice;
He heard my cry for mercy.
2 Because He turned His ear to me,
I will call on Him as long as I live.
3 The cords of death entangled me,
the anguish of the grave came over me;
I was overcome by distress and sorrow.
4 Then I called on the name of the Lord:
“Lord, save me!”
5 The Lord is gracious and righteous;
our God is full of compassion.
6 The Lord protects the unwary;
when I was brought low, he saved me.
7 Return to your rest, my soul,
for the Lord has been good to you.
When we worship the Lord our God today it is my prayer that we would consider the ways that the Lord has come to our rescue.
When we worship the Lord our God today it is my prayer that the first thought and the first words would be like those of David “I love the Lord!”
There are times when things may seem a bit scary, when it may become obvious that we are not in control of our circumstances and that we need help. David’s words as he begins this song of worship ring true for us. “We love you Lord, and we are so very thankful for your love and your care!”
