How Far? 09-29-23

Good morning. How far are you willing to go? Before that question could be answered there would need to be much more information provided. If the question relates to travel, “how far are you willing to go?” would need to be clarified by understanding purpose. If the question is how far would you go to enjoy a Dairy Queen blizzard, the answer might be tied to the heat of the day, but usually it wouldn’t be that far. If the question is how far are you willing to go to join with family for a celebration of life after the passing of a loved one, the other end of the country may not be too far.

However, the question “How far are you willing to go?” might apply to a number of situations other than distance of travel. How far are you willing to go to have the best chance of fulfilling a life’s dream? How far are you willing to go to make sure that a job is properly done? How far are you willing to go to ensure that a relationship remains healthy? How far are you willing to go to be certain that you are walking with Jesus within the will of God?

If we asked that question of our Father God, what answer would we expect to hear? Throughout scripture God answers the question, sharing the history of how far He has been willing to go to forgive and to care for His covenantal people; how far He has been willing to go to defeat the enemy of mankind; how far He has been willing to go to ensure that all who are willing will join Him in eternity. Please consider with me these verses from Hebrews 13.20-21:  Now may the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

How far is God willing to go for you? As far as is needed, whatever it takes, no matter the cost, God has been and is willing to go that distance for you.
