Disturbing Love 06-05-23

Good morning. The scripture I will share this morning is from the Song of Solomon. That Biblical book is a love story. It uses the deep and disruptive love between a young man and woman to describe and define the level of God’s love for us. The scripture verses I would like to share are from 5:2-3. The setting is that of a young woman who has retired for the night. She is asleep, sort of. She doesn’t want to be disturbed, except she does. These are the verses:

I slept but my heart was awake.
    Listen! My beloved is knocking:
“Open to me, my sister, my darling,
    my dove, my flawless one.
My head is drenched with dew,
my hair with the dampness of the night.”
I have taken off my robe—
must I put it on again?
I have washed my feet—
    must I soil them again?

The point is that love is its own disturbance. In fact, there is nothing so disturbing, so disrupting, so demanding, so upsetting as love. But it is worth it!

God invites us to enjoy a powerful love relationship with Him. His desire is that we share with Him a love that is deep, defining, and desperate in its need. He wants our whole heart, and only when we allow ourselves to become completely invested in the love of God will we find the fullness of His blessing.

How deep is your desire to grow in your love relationship with God the Father through Jesus Christ His Son? Are you ready to accept that He stands at the door and knocks, patiently waiting for you to open up your heart and invite Him in?

Love deeply, desperately, disturbingly, our God who is calling your name.
