A Treasure to Savor 10-30-22

Good morning. The message at NLCC this morning will continue to focus some of the remarkable things that Jesus had to say. When challenged about His role and how it fit within the Old Testament record, Jesus told the Pharisees and teachers of the Law that “not jot or a tittle” would be changed from the Word of God until it had been fulfilled. The Word of God is sacred and to be honored, never changed by the intention of man.

As I was growing up a mile or so from town, the newspaper wasn’t delivered to us. My dad would drive into town daily and buy a copy, and then sit at the kitchen table and scan the pages. He would skim through the paper, stopping only to read the articles where the headline caught his interest. The Bible isn’t like that. Newspapers may be skimmed, but we need to recognize that the Word of God is to be carefully searched. I think of the Word as something like a quary to be carefully mined as the treasures within are revealed.

Consider the beginning of the Book of Psalms:

Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers,
but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,
and who meditates on his law day and night.
That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither–
whatever they do propsers.  Psalm 1:1-3

As your heart is lifted up to God in worship today give praise for the Word of Life. It is a treasure that unfolds for us day by day, its truths increasingly understood as we gain life experience. It is a joy to consider that God, the Creator of all, speaks to us this and every day, and that He will continue to do so until we join Him in the heavenly realm.
