Merry Christmas! God’s blessings upon you and all with whom you share this blessed day!
I know that Christmas makes this an especially busy day, and I thank you for taking a few moments to consider a “thought for the day”.
I would like to share with you this Christmas truth from 1 John 1:1-7:
That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched—this we proclaim concerning the Word of life. The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us. We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. We write this to make our joy complete.
This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
These words are John’s testimony, most fitting to consider on Christmas. He didn’t hold the little baby Jesus, but he knew Him as both friend and Messiah.
John speaks in plural form, speaking I believe for the other disciples who shared the path of Jesus while He walked among them. He tells us that these words, and all of the letter to follow, are written to make our joy complete. Knowing all about Jesus isn’t enough for complete joy. Walking with Jesus and talking with Jesus and witnessing the power of Jesus was not enough for their complete joy.
The way to embrace the fullness of joy in Jesus, on Christmas day but also on every other day, is to share it.
May the sharing of the love of Jesus Christ be the best gift that you give today!
