Good morning. God bless our worship and praise today. He is so worthy of all glory and praise!
One of the challenging verses of scripture contains one of the great promises God gives to us. Romans 8:28 tells us: And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
I say that it is challenging because the verse uses the word “all”. It would be much easier for us to read if God’s promise was, “in most things God works for the good”. Or perhaps, “in those things that are righteous and reasonable and of godly intention God works for the good”. But that isn’t God’s promise, is it? No, God says “in all things”.
So, on that horrible evening and night God worked for our good with chicken-hearted disciples that deserted Him when He needed them most? God worked for our good with a two-timing turncoat called Judas? It was for our good that the Pharisees and Sadducees were willing to put their hatred of each other aside long enough to hate Him more? It was for our good that the High Priest had Him abused and mocked? It was for our good that they hung Him from a cross, spit at Him, and pierced His side?
Yes, it was all for our good. That and every other horrible thing that happened to Jesus throughout His life was all for our good.
So, the next time you find yourself wondering how a particular trial in your life could ever be considered “for your good” remember all that Jesus has done, “for your good”.
Every dark and trying detail is a testimony to the power of God and the love expressed to us in Jesus Christ. So yes, we know that God is at work in all things to bring about what is good for us. He is, He was, and He will always be at work for us “for our good”.
