Good morning. The feast is over. The dishes are washed. The football was watched, or not. For those eager for Christmas sales the Friday after Thanksgiving has become something close to a holiday in and of itself. And then there are the leftovers. Of all the truths of this day none are so dear to some of us as the reality that the Thanksgiving feast leftovers are in the fridge.
Turkey sandwich anyone? How about that piece of pie? You know, the kind of pie you passed on yesterday in favor of pecan, but looks really good today. Today is a day of feasting with a different outlook. Today, we are being good stewards of the blessings we enjoyed yesterday by not letting any of it go to waste. How righteous of us!
It is okay. God is smiling. He wants His kids to enjoy our blessings in their entirety. Taking care of the leftovers is a fine Christian act, but don’t forget that those blessings should continue to be enjoyed with a heart of grateful thanks and praise. Leftover prayers of thanks, or perhaps I should say prayers of thanks for the leftovers, are just as fitting today as they were when we were gathered around the table(s) yesterday.
Our God is generous. Our God blesses us in overflowing abundance. Our God wants us to be filled to overflowing and expects His blessings that overflow from us will touch the lives of those around us.
“Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13
You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand. Psalm 16:11
And the church is his body; it is made full and complete by Christ, who fills all things everywhere with himself. Ephesians 1:23
May your life overflow with blessings today. May His abundance be yours in overflow so that you are able to share His blessings with those He brings to you.
Rejoice in your leftovers and be thankful that our God’s love is so generously expressed.
