Good morning. Needs; concerns; desires; hopes; and dreams, where do we search for these? There is a never ending stream of commercials which promise that if you look to this product or that one you will find that for which you are looking. Is that true? Usually not. There are politicians and other promisers who tell us to trust them, for they have the answers we seek. Is that true? Usually not. There are hobbies and pass-times, there is work and there is play, there are relationships of all sorts, and there are subjects that we deem to have varying degrees of importance. Do they, separately, or even when considered all together, satisfy? Usually not.
The truth is we are not created for this life. Ours is presently a life that is hopefully lifted up in faith and therefore known for joy. But we also all know life which is filled with challenges and difficulties, temptations, failures, and faults. We were not created to endure life, we were created to love life, to enjoy it, and to celebrate it. We were created to live with God in peace and in love. Sin has changed life as we knew it.
But God’s love has never wavered. God’s desire to hold us close has never waned. God wants us to live life abundantly today and ultimately to a glorious eternity. So, God has done what is required to provide the needed remedy. God has provided the One who is the answer to needs, concerns, desires, hopes, and dreams. Jesus is that answer we are seeking. Consider His words as they are recorded in John 6:35-40:
Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst. But I said to you that you have seen me and yet do not believe. All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out. For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will but the will of him who sent me. And this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up on the last day. For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.”
I love the thought of that last sentence: “For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.”
We need to look on the Son. It is easy to get distracted, it is tempting to try out all of the other answers and solutions. But we must look on the Son.
When we look on the Son, turn our eyes upon Jesus, we see, we find, we know, and we discover the answers needed for our questions, even questions we have as of yet not thought to consider.
Look on the Son today, and relax, and enjoy your day.
