Good morning. It promises to be a lovely day. Wouldn’t it be great if we had 325 days like this; 20 days of winter with 10 on each side of Christmas; and 20 days of hot summer with 10 on each side of the 4th of July? I know, we need rain in there somewhere, but it is my weather fantasy so leave it alone!
What we get, at least here in MN, are a couple weeks of lovely weather in the early fall, winter that comes too early and stays too long, and summer heat that would make a desert lizard sweat.
But today, it is a lovely day! Please consider this from Psalm 90:17 May the loveliness of the Lord our God rest upon us, and may it confirm the work he would have us do.
I should note that another verse from this Psalm is well known and quoted often: Teach us, oh Lord, to number our days correctly, that we might gain a heart of wisdom. Psalm 90:10 That is a wonderful verse to ponder, but for me verse 17, as well as the rest of the Psalm, is quite beautiful.
Psalm 90 is identified in scripture as “a prayer of Moses, the man of God”. It was written in the midst of the 40years of wandering in the desert wilderness while God cleansed His people. One would think that the days spent wandering would have felt long and dull. I imagine that the oppressive heat of the day would wear a person out and that the cold desert nights would chill an old man’s bones.
But Moses exclaimed the greater truth in his wonderful prayer. Moses shared in prayer his heart felt desire: May the loveliness of the Lord our God rest upon us.
What a wonderful thought for this, and for every day. May His loveliness be so comforting and inspiring that we too feel the need to pray and may it confirm the work he would have us do.
May the loveliness of our Lord rest upon you today!
