Good morning. “Funambulism”, that is the official word for the peculiar activity of walking a tightrope. 100 years ago, walking a tightrope was quite an appreciated and admired phenomenon. The practice continues, but it is now overshadowed by a number of other “extreme sports” endeavors. Things like bungee jumping, mountain boarding (going down a mountain on a glorified skateboard), street luge (sliding down steep residential streets on a wheeled board that you lay upon, similar to the board they use in winter Olympics – although street luge sounds to me like it may put a new meaning to the expression “roadkill”). There is a long list of what most of us consider “crazy dangerous” activities.
Back to tightrope walking, the greatest respect was paid to those who did not use a net. The higher and longer they walked, the more outrageous and dangerous the risk, the greater the awe and respect they were given. Most of us consider such activities to be borderline insane. This is especially true when there isn’t a net or something in place to mitigate the risk.
As we walk through life we may feel from time to time as though we are on a tightrope without a net. Somehow, we may feel as though some part of our life and the choices we need to make are risky, or even dangerous. But we must always remember this truth: God is with us. Our ever-present safety net is the everlasting arms of the Almighty.
The Lord wants us to remember that when we are living for Him, He has us covered.
Please consider the truth of Romans 8:37-39 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Nothing can tear us away from Him. His everlasting arms are always there for us. If we make a misstep, and we always do, His love and devotion never fail us.
I am not suggesting we take up tightrope walking as a new hobby, but when life gets complicated the Lord’s truth is not. He loves us, guards us, and guides us, and He always will.
