Good morning. “I love you.” Those are words we all long to hear, but to be honest about it they don’t mean much unless we know that they are true. Unless we are certain that the words are an honest reflection of the truth of the heart, they are only words.
But, when those words do reflect the truth of the heart, they are some of the most powerful words that a person could ever speak to another. Therefore, the question of supreme importance is: how can we be sure?
God has spoken those words to you, and God wants you to have no doubt what-so-ever that His words of love are absolutely true.
As we read the first letter of John we learn about the truth of love, and God’s love is described to provide the perfect example. Consider this passage from 1 John 4:13-19 By this we know that we abide in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit. And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God.So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. By this is love perfected with us, so that we may have confidence for the day of judgment, because as he is so also are we in this world. There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love. We love because he first loved us.
This passage shares some of the proof of God’s love for us: 1. He has blessed us with His spiritual presence. 2. He has given to us His Son, Jesus, who willingly sacrificed Himself for our salvation. 3. Everything about God is a matter of love, for love is the definition of His nature and character. 4. The love we know from God is so perfect that by embracing and sharing His love we find that it is so powerful it conquers every fear and concern that could claim our heart. 5. God loved us first. While we were yet sinners, living in rebellion against His will, He loved us unconditionally.
God’s love poems are written in His Word, and the certainty of God’s love is written in the blood of the Lamb. The ferocity of His love is revealed in His gracious forgiveness.
There is no doubt about it, God loves you.
