Good morning. There are so many aspects of our wonderful, Creator God which are amazing that it is nearly impossible to focus upon any single one of them. But there is one promise of God that is so amazing, so divine, so powerful in its implication and function that I feel compelled to bring it up for today’s inspiration.
This promise was first presented to us in Jeremiah 31:31-34, and is quoted in Hebrews 8:7-12. The subject in these passages is the New Covenant which God will establish with His people through the work of His Messiah, our Lord Jesus. The verses in their entirety speak of God’s people and their journey of faith. God says in these passages that He will, with His New Covenant, become known to all mankind and all will know Him through His righteousness and the power of His grace.
It is the promise of Hebrews 8:12 that is breathtaking and amazing:
“For I will forgive their wickedness
and will remember their sins no more.”
Wow! God promises to not only forgive, God promises to forget. God erases the board. He destroys the evidence. He burns every record. He cleans the hard drive. Whatever methods or systems you might imagine information and records may be kept; God obliterates them. Your sin, once forgiven, is gone.
Mistakes are like they never happened. Rebellion shares the same fate. God, who is able to do all things, does this one thing that would be impossible for us: God forgets.
When the Almighty forgets something, it is gone. More than that, it is as if it never happened at all.
You are incredibly forgiven. Amazingly forgiven by the power of divine forgetfulness.
Rejoice!
