Good morning. Hope is not a new topic, but it is a topic that needs to be considered regularly.
God’s Word provides us with many verses to teach us about hope. We have the definition of hope in Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. and in Romans 8:24-25 For in this hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.
In the Old Testament, Abraham and Sarah give us a picture of hope. God promised the childless couple a baby, and when their age made continued hope seem ridiculous, God delivered on His promise.
Hope, when answered by God, is often what we do not expect it to be. Hope, when God answers it, may seem zany, unimaginable, outlandish, incredible, or even impossible.
It would seem that our God loves to shock our socks off from time to time. Perhaps it makes Him smile when He sees our bugged-out eyes and smiles that spread from ear to ear.
I do know this: hope in our Lord is a joy that refreshes, a promise that is fulfilled. Hope in our Lord is a part of our foundation in faith. Hope in our Lord provides sustenance through those disappointing times in our life.
Perhaps we should rejoice in the prayer of the apostle Paul for believers: May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope. Romans 15:13
That is a powerful prayer and a wonderful expectation. May the Spirit of God fill us with hope. Not a glimpse or a speck, but by abounding in us in hope!
May you find joy today in the hope which is alive in your soul through the Spirit of God!
