Good morning. All of God’s Word is exciting, thought provoking, challenging, and lovely. All of it. But I must confess to having favorites from among the many pages of the Word of Life. One of my personal favorite passages are those verses that begin the gospel of John. Please enjoy with me John 1:1-5
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
These few verses share with us a wealth of truth regarding Jesus. He is God; He is eternal; He is Creator; He is life; and He is light, the light of mankind. He is the beacon that shows us the way out of the murky darkness and gloom of sin to bring us back where we belong, into the arms of our heavenly Father. These verses are…beautiful.
Nine verses later, the fourteenth verse to be exact, there is another powerful truth that is shared. These beautiful words from John 1:1-5 which tell us that Jesus was and is fully God, that He was and is the Creator of the universe. But read and consider John 1:14
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
The God of heaven, in all His glory, became flesh! The Word, whose place is the heavenly realm, decided to live with us. Think about that for a moment. God decided to know what it felt like to be tempted, to be tired, to be hungry and angry and sleepy and disappointed. Yet all the while He was with us, He remained full of grace and truth.
Imagine the scope and power of love that would bring the Creator into the midst of the created. Wow!
Thank you, Lord Jesus!
