Living in Grace 11-9-22

Good morning. Romans 6:1-11 is a wonderful passage of scripture. It tells us about the “why” of baptism, what joining the Lord in the likeness of His death, burial, and resurrection is all about. But if we take a look at just the first two verses, we also see an important question posed. Romans 6:1-2 says: What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it?

How can people who have been made right not live righteously? How can those who have been extravagantly loved not share love? How can those who have been richly blessed be unwilling to share blessings? How can those who have been wondrously forgiven refuse to forgive others? How could anyone who has been saved by grace not live graciously?

The blessings of God, the love of God, and the grace of God have been poured out into the lives of all who have given themselves to Jesus Christ. How could anyone who recognizes the truth of that statement continue to live as though nothing meaningful has happened within them?

Should we continue to live our everyday lives as though the grace of God has no effect? By no means!” Though the words are on the written page it isn’t difficult to imagine the apostle Paul shouting them.

Today, yes, this very day, we should choose to live graciously. We should choose to live as one whose life has been forever changed by the blood of Jesus. May our gracious lifestyle be recognized by righteous choices, words, and behaviors. May our gracious lifestyle include a willingness to extend grace to one another, and to the world around us.

May grace become a matter of lifestyle!
