Good morning. For our thought on this Day of the Lord, our day of special worship and praise, I would like to consider the first few verses of Psalm 96.
Sing to the Lord a new song;
sing to the Lord, all the earth. Psalm 96:1
The Psalm begins not with a suggestion, but a command to sing to the Lord. It is commanded that our God be worshiped in song. Singing engages the intellect as well as the emotions, singing lifts the spirit and focuses the heart, singing is a gift of God and an essential aspect of proper worship.
Sing to the Lord, praise his name;
proclaim his salvation day after day. Psalm 96:2
This Psalm is written to believers. It is written to people who love the Lord, are anxious to praise Him, and are ready to share His Good News.
Declare his glory among the nations,
his marvelous deeds among all peoples. Psalm 96:3
The command to declare His glory is more emphatic than a call to simply explain it. We are to declare the truth of God’s glory and His marvelous deeds to all people. We are to speak of His love, His healing, His holiness, His mercy, His salvation, and of His power to everyone.
Joining in worship is a wonderful celebration of faith. It is a great time to gather with friends and family as we worship the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Worship is most definitely not limited to Sunday mornings, but praise God that we have this time together. Let’s make the most of it!
God bless your worship today!
