The Doxology 5-23-22

Good Morning.

Now to him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you blameless before the presence of his glory with great joy, to the only God, our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen. Jude 24-25

In your Bible this passage is likely to be titled “Doxology.” The word doxology comes from the Greek words “doxa” which means “glory”, and “logia” which means “to express” in oral or written form. So, doxology means to express glory.

I am rather taken by the first statement of Jude, the brother of Jesus Christ, in his doxology. He writes of Him, who is Jesus, that He is able to keep us from falling. Wow! Now that is a big job! We are talking about spiritual falls, spiritual failures. The expression of praise and glory is to Him who is able to keep you and I from ever falling again. Is that even possible?

Well, think of it. Think of the last time you have fallen (for most of us we don’t have to search our memories going back terribly far) and think of what you did to prevent it. Did you stop to ask Jesus for help? Did you wait for Jesus to provide strength? Did you turn away and leave the temptation at the foot of the cross? Obviously not, because we are remembering that last time when we did indeed fall. But we must also consider what life would be like if we did ask Jesus to lift us up, to prevent us from falling yet again.

To that Jesus, our Lord and Savior who is willing and able to keep us from ever falling, to Him be all glory—for ever and ever amen!

When we allow Jesus to hold us up, to keep us from falling, we are allowing Him to keep us pure and blameless, ready to be presented to God in all of His glory.

I don’t know about you, but I will need His help today. I don’t know about you, but I think I have fallen enough. Praise be to Jesus Christ, the One who saves us from falling, when we remember to ask!
